13th October 2025 - Netball Festival

A big thank you to Sydney Russell school for hosting this years Badminton event, it was lovely to take our small group of year 3 and 4 students to their first event and immerse them in the competitive but super enjoyable games run by the year 9 students. These sessions, whilst competitive in nature ( especially against schools across the borough) helped the children develop technique, teamwork and foster a love for sport which is incredibly important in todays world as we try to focus not just upon our mental health, but just as equally important our physical health.

With this week also seeing the year 5/6 girls football team kicking off the season with their first game tomorrow, followed on Friday by the boys team, it’s all go for sports this term at TVJ!

Thanks again to Mr. Smith for coming along to support the children today, as well as to Ms. Uppal for organising the schools selection for the event, all of the children had an enriching and enjoyable experience

15th October 2025 - Girls Football Match - Appleyard Shield

SUPER PROUD!!!

With a result that would make most premier league teams salivate, the girls kicked off the Appleyard Shield season with a glorious 6 - 3 (6 -2) result yesterday afternoon, against the well versed and equally capable Monteagle Junior.

With many of the team being new players this year, it was wonderful to see the synergy in their playing throughout the game - I would hazard a bet that they could give the boys team a lot of trouble this year!

Massive shout out to ***** for her hat-trick ( the second goal was a standout) as well as new joining members *** with her dynamite double and ****** with her monstrous strike from 15 yards away! I won’t be giving a player of the match just yet but all of the team earned 10 green dojos for their inspiring performance! (And yes…Bank and I will keep our promise of McDonald’s as a celebration WHEN we win the tournament this season!)

Thank you to the parents that came to support, your cheering went along way

Let’s go game 2, and bring on the boys first game this Friday!

12/11/2025 - Sports Hall Athletics Festival Heat 2

Well Done to Our Amazing Athletics Team!

A huge well done to all the children who took part in the Sports Hall Festival! You showed fantastic effort, teamwork, and determination throughout the event.

You gave it your best — trying something completely new, learning as you went, and showing great sportsmanship against schools who regularly train for these events.

We are so proud of how you supported one another, stayed positive, and represented TVJ with such enthusiasm and pride. You truly embodied our school spirit — giving your all, learning from every challenge, and celebrating each other’s successes.

Well done, Team TVJ!

A huge thank you to Mr Pettit for taking the athletics team to the Sports Hall Festival.

Mr Pettit’s leadership was truly inspiring. He guided the team every step of the way, showing them how to play just before each event, keeping their spirits high, and offering encouragement when things got tough. His positivity and belief in the children gave them the confidence and hope they needed to keep going.

On behalf of the staff, the parents and the children, I would like to thank Mr Pettit for his dedication, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to our students and their participation in sporting events.

18/11/2025 - Football Match - School Team

WOAH...AND I MEAN WOAH WITH A CAPITAL WOAHHHH!!

What an absolutely inspiring result for our mixed football team today!
Not 1, not 2, not even 6 but ELEVEN (you read that right) ELEVEN goals scored in this evenings game against previous trophy holders Richard Alibon, rounding up our second win of the season with an 11 - 1 win (technically 11 - 0 but we had a 'fumble').

The team played some truly beautiful football this evening, welcoming some new players trying out for our final 12 who will be going into the next stage.

I have tried not to give a player of the match previously as I believe it's always a team effort, but with that being said - 9 goals just deserves it's flowers and that goes to our first player of the match this season, the absolute striking sensation that is ****** ( I almost forgot I was officiating the game at one point as I just watched in awe when he struck home his 7th of the 9 he scored).

A giant thank you as always to Bank for volunteering his time to get the team ready and instilling them with a real sense of passion and pride in representing their school.

With our next game for the mixed team coming up on December the 2nd, followed by our winning girls team playing their second match on December the 16th, we have a really good chance of some future success this season - LETS KEEP IT UP EVERYONE!!

(*Athletics results, Rugby and basketball news to come soon)

(P.S apologies for no team photo, my hands were frozen by the time we wrapped)

21/11/2025 - Athletics Festival Heat 1 and Rugby Festival

JUMPING IN AT THE DEEP END:
ATHLETICS AND RUGBY

Good morning everyone - I wanted to make a little something for the children that competed over these last two weeks, just to underline how proud of them we are at TVJ (I hope you enjoy the video).

As a little background, after a stellar start to the boys and girls football leagues this year, TVJ were entered into our first ever Borough Athletic and Rugby competitions.

Following a trial process at the end of last term, which involved a large number of excited students in Year's 5 and 6, a small number of pupils were selected to represent TVJ in a variety of sporting competitions, of which Athletics and Rugby were two. With a short turnaround time to introduce and prep themselves, TVJ students went on to produce some heroic performances over these last two weeks that showed heart, determination and a willingness to learn (at some points 'on the job'). To say I am incredibly proud of them after just one hours introduction and training would be an emphatic understatement, they competed against over 16 other schools within the borough (many of whom have been competing in these events for more than 2 decades) and were nothing but a true credit to themselves and to the school (especially surviving 5 hours outside in the weather on Wednesday - you earned those Donuts!!)

Having now found a passion for these sports, with some more training and making sure they stay consistent with their work ethic, these students have the potential to become some outstanding sportsmen and women in the years that follow.

A huge thank you to Ms. Uppal for entering TVJ this year and helping to support (and document) during the events - without her extra hard work and drive to offer more opportunities to the students here, our participation (and more importantly the new-found passions) would not have happened. Whilst we did not make it through to the next round, we have an incredible amount to be proud of and like Mr. Smith said - it's not how we start, it's getting started that counts.

Well done again everyone! Look out for more upcoming competitions (Basketball and more) to follow in the coming weeks and months (and don't forget to keep a keen eye for the results of the next rounds of the boys and girls football fixtures!).

16/12/2025 - Girls' Football Match - Appleyard Sheild

They’ve only gone and done it again!!

Our girls came through this afternoon with an absolute blinding result of 11-2 against Riverside Juniors!!!

The girls put forward such an impressive performance that by the first half it was 7 - 1 (Bank and I told them to ‘ease off’ a little and just focus on defending) at that point if anything, they could have been up by 20 with a clean sheet!

With 2 lessons learnt that left us unfortunately conceding 2 goals aside, the girls showed a high level of tenacity, technique and toughness that can definitely take us through to the finals! Everyone received player of the match today for how well they worked as a team, so 5 dojos each!

With the girls now through to the quarter finals in the Appleyard Shield tournament against Henry Green in January (and currently top of the table with 17 goals!!) and the boys/ mixed team finishing at the top of their group table (again with 17 goals!!) in the Barking and Dagenham Finesse Cup, it’s everything to play for next term!

A huge thanks again to Bank for volunteering his time and providing our teams with his expert coaching, it’s paying off!

Have a great Christmas everyone!

23/01/2026- Football Match - School Team

BACK AT IT ALREADY!

Not a bad way to start off the next round with a 9-1 win over Eastbury Primary!

Again, we still have some polishing up to do in certain areas (as this could have easily been a double figures victory without a concession, a penalty given away on our side) but even with that said, the team are really starting to produce some lovely football, worthy of holding that trophy in a few months time!

The girls are up next on Tuesday in the next round of the AppleYard Shield tournament, followed by two more games before half term for the mixed team. With clean sheets from both teams, it continues to be all to play for as we march forward!

Look out for some upcoming athletics news as well as Year 4 compete in their first event this coming Wednesday!

Thanks as always to Bank for his solid efforts in getting the team ready, the children are lucky to have you as a coach
everyone

26/02/26

Hello everyone!

At TVJ, we love seeing our girls getting involved in sport and giving football a go!

This week, the Year 4 girls’ football team was set up to give our girls a chance to try football, enjoy being active and take part in a fun, positive event at Inspire level - meaning it was all about participation, learning new skills and having fun, rather than serious competition.

We’re really excited to share that our new team had a fantastic time at the Girls’ Football Festival at Eastbrook School!

The girls took part in lots of football-related activities, had a go at different skills and got to play in a really supportive and friendly environment. They made new friends, learned some new things and had a blast all day.

Well done to all the girls — we’re so proud of how they threw themselves into it!

5 - 2 ....They've done it again!

Huge shout out to our girls team for their Quarter Final victory over Henry Green!

I heard it was tense with a 0-2 half time score, but they braved it out, locked in and came back with 5 in the second half! That's a heroic turn around if I have ever heard one.

Semi finals next against Eastbury in two weeks - we're all behind you TVJ!

 Bee Netball Festival Success!

Today, 9 of our amazing Year 4 children represented our school at the Bee Netball Festival held at Redbridge Sports Centre – and what a fantastic day it was!

The children took part in 12 different netball activities, showing off a wide range of skills including passing, shooting, footwork, teamwork, communication and resilience. They approached every challenge with enthusiasm, determination and huge smiles on their faces.

It was so lovely to hear so many of them say it was “the best day ever” and “the best festival they’ve been to!”

Mr Caprice and I were incredibly proud of how they represented our school—not just in their skills, but in their behaviour, sportsmanship and encouragement of one another. In fact, one of the facilitators even told us that we were the best school they had worked with today!

A huge well done to all of our Year 4 superstars—you were brilliant ambassadors and should be very proud of yourselves!

An Amazing Journey For Our Football Girls:

Happy Easter Everyone! I hope you are all enjoying some (healthy ...ish) rounds of chocolate eggs and quality family time over the 2 week break.

I had planned to send this out last week but got held up with a few things; hopefully this sentiment still carries the same timely weight.

After an incredibly dominant run in the Appleyard 2025/26 tournament, our girls finished up in 3rd place on Thursday, succumbing to their only defeat in the tournament at the hands of the very physically imposing Eastbury Community School in the semi final.

Whilst the result was a hard one to take, it was equally a triumphant journey for the girls to have been on. TVJ have historically never made it out of the 2nd round, so to win every game and make it through to not only the quarter, but then semi finals, was an incredible achievement that emphatically reflected how far they have all come.

Every game saw the girls growing in confidence, with the cohesion of their playing together becoming a well oiled machine of slick footwork, dynamic movement and beautiful teamwork that truly displayed not only a passion for the sport, but incredible talent to boot (you can...just ignore the pun). Most importantly, they represented the school (and even more importantly themselves) admirably throughout the tournament, embodying the values of sportsmanship and truly embracing each challenge with determination and dedication to the task at hand. It was an absolute pleasure to have accompanied the team for part of this journey and I know that Bank was equally proud of each and every one of them.

A huge thank you goes to Bank as always for volunteering his time to train and coach the girls in these competitions, your talent as an ex professional, knowledge of the beautiful game and incredible passion for inspiring children to participate in sport is never forgotten. Thank you as well to Mr Caprice for stepping in to help support the team in the final two matches, as well as to Ms Uppal and Mrs Hastilow for working behind the scenes to help prepare the events, your support and dedication to giving the best to the children is equally never forgotten.

Well done again girls, we are all so very proud of you and cannot wait to see what you go on to achieve in the future Remember: we win or we learn, and you achieved both with flying colours!!

Up next we have, wait for it, MORE FOOTBALL NEWS!

On April 27th, a year 5/6 mixed team will be taking part in a Diversity Day football World Cup 5-a-side Competition at Goals, followed by a year 3/4 team taking part in the same competition on the Tuesday.

But before that, the incredible dominance of our mixed team will take to the pitch for their quarter final match on the 16th, so it's all still to play for!

Semi Final's here we come!!!!

After a very questionable first half, a lot of rebuilding had to be done but TVJ picked themselves up and came through with a 4-1 victory by the end of the second.

With the semi final match just a few weeks away against William Bellamy, we have some work to do (especially if we want to secure that final against Monteagle) but the potential to finally win the borough cup is there, it's just about how much we want to push ourselves, both in and out of the classroom, to see the 'fruits of our labour'.

Heads up everyone and keep that focus, not long to go now.

Mr Pettit

DAGGERS DIVERSITY TOURNAMENT 2026
(FOOTBALL CLASS WAS IN SESSION!)

What an absolute star showing our year 3,4,5 and 6 children displayed over the last two days!

Our first ever entrance into the tournament saw our year 3 and 4's score a monstrous 43 goals today across 7 matches, which somehow didn't manage to eclipse the insane 48 goals that our year 5 and 6 team scored over their 7 matches in the tournament yesterday.

Whilst there is no overall winner in the tournament (with the focus being on celebrating the beauty that is diversity in our borough), it's safe to say that TVJ finished at the top of both days on goal difference alone (with a 15 -1 win yesterday and a 12 -0 win today to cap off the tournaments).

I would love to give special shout outs to all the children for how incredibly well they played, putting on absolute masterclasses of tactical precision, technical brilliance and determination beyond their years, with the year 3 and 4 team today being a passionate display of teamwork and sportsmanship.

All students have been awarded 20 dojo's each to go along with their medals and certificates (I can hear their teachers shouting at me already) but they fully deserve it.

A huge thank you to the Community Trust Manager of Dagenham & Redbridge, Mr. Denis Lawrence, for organising the tournament, Ms. Uppal and Mrs. Hastilow for helping to organise our entrance and Mr. Caprice as always for his support over the 2 days.

A huge shout out to all the parents who took the time out to spend the day with us and support your children over these two days, it truly means a lot to see the support and smiles on their faces - I hope you enjoyed it as much as they did

With that said, the semi final is up next for our year 5 and 6 team on Thursday, LETS GOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Mr Pettit

4 - 1, FINAL'S HERE WE COME!!!

TVJ just secured their place in the final for the first time ever in the Barking & Dagenham Finesse Cup with a solid performance (that only saw a forced penalty keep us from a clean 4-0 win ) we could not be prouder of you all!

Fingers crossed for a home game to win that trophy in style!

LETS GOOOOOOOOOO BOYS AND GIRLS!!!

We Win or We Learn

Last night, TVJ took part in their first ever Cup Final, an event that started with challenges even before the first whistle blew as the heavens opened and tried to dampen the spirits of the team. But in true TVJ spirit, the students picked themselves up and kept their heads (and very soaked ones at that) held high, opening the score sheet with a beautiful turn over to take us 1-0 up in the first 3 minutes. Unfortunately, we would succumb to the deployment of 3 deftly executed set pieces by the well versed Monteagle in that first half; by half time the rain may have cleared but the team were still feeling it. Although the goal difference sadly did not change in the second half, TVJ admirably and bravely fought back and showed the reason why they have been the first ever team in the history of the school to make it this far, an achievement they should all be incredibly proud of.

Whilst it was a bitter ending for all with many a tear, Bank, Mr Caprice and I could not have asked more of the children throughout the entire tournament, they pushed hard in every match, showed flare and skill beyond their years and like our girls team did earlier in the spring, became a team truly to take note of and fear. As the tournament Secretary stated in the closing speeches, TVJ had been the highest scoring team throughout the tournament, with their results being spoken about by the other teams across the borough. Those results are testament to you all, so as you all move into your next stage of school life, remember that you have a grit and determination that even some adults only wish they could muster up. Never let that go, it will serve you well in what ever challenges come your way as you all continue to move forward and shine.

With that said, I want to quickly take the time to say thank you on behalf of TVJ to our coach, Bank. Coaching a sport’s team at times can often be a hard and thankless task, but volunteering that time outside of your own work shows an incredible passion to want to inspire the next generation, something Bank has always strived to do. As most parents may no doubt be familiar with, Bank has been a staple at TVJ for over more than 2 decades, supporting and helping develop the footballing children at the school throughout that time. It is hard not to spot the silverware that adorns the reception at TVJ, captured by Banks own Sunday league team’s that have continued to include many students throughout the borough and TVJ, with their accomplishments being something Bank has always displayed at the school reception to help inspire the children; whilst we were not able to add TVJ’s first piece of footballing silverware to that collection, it is only a matter of time before we do, so as always, thank you Bank for continuing to support and inspire the next generation of sporting stars.

A special thank you as well goes to Mr Caprice for your support, hard work and passionate encouragement that has been a much needed boost for the children, your extra coaching during matches and positive words of affirmation during those games has been truly significant and helped a long way in the journey the team has had.

Thank you again to Ms Uppal, Mr Smith, our caretaker Scott and the admin team at TVJ for always juggling the additional work load of staffing timetables, forms, covering, late lock ups and supporting wherever needs be, as well as continuing to push the participation of sport at TVJ.

Thank you to all the parents that have given up their time for late finishes, wet and cold environments and extra training (as well as celebrating every achievement and at times having to mend dampened spirits) - supporting your children in events like this goes a long way in showing how much you value their participation in extra curricular activities and care about their futures, truly a beautiful thing to witness.

Finally to the children. Again, thank you for your commitment, your passion, your willingness to adapt and learn under pressure, your ability to cohesively work as a team even when it might be difficult, to push through and persevere when challenges arise, but most importantly to support each other and believe in yourselves. Take stock of what you achieved, I have no doubt that if you keep hold of those qualities and nurture them with that positive mindset that you all possess, your steps forward will only continue to bring you every opportunity and success in the future.

Mr Pettit

17/06/2026Football Festival Success!

Today, our children took part in the Football Festival and they were absolutely fantastic! They showed great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Most importantly, the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, representing the school with pride and enthusiasm. To top it all off, they were all awarded medals – a wonderful achievement and a lovely way to celebrate their efforts!

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them – they were a real credit to the school.

A huge thank you to our parent volunteers and school staff who supported the trip and helped make the day run so smoothly. Your support is truly appreciated!

Well done everyone!

Ms Uppal
